The reviews are obviously important for a businesses brand reputation. Additionally the more positive reviews a business has, the higher the results ranking on Yelp will be. Getting lots of positive reviews as well as a business owner responding to negative reviews is very important. Here are a few tips.

1) Responding to negative reviews: Ideally done by the business owner to respond both as a Public Comment as well as a Private Message to the reviewer. By responding this shows that the business is working at trying to fix or rectify any issues and thereby resolving any negative experiences a customer might have had. In a Private Message a discount on another purchase or some other incentive can be offered.

2) Responding to positive reviews: Yelp recommends that responding to a positive review ONLY be done via a Private Message. You can also use this message to give the customer a discount coupon or some other incentive to make another purchase for being a valued customer. It’s a nice way to say ‘thank you’ for the review but it MUST be a surprise and definitely not something the customer is aware of or it could be viewed as ‘buying reviews’ which is a big no no.

3) Getting positive reviews from customers: This definitely takes continuous work to do it right. After every sale, ask the customer if they ever review businesses on Yelp. If they do, then ask them if they wouldn’t mind writing a hopefully positive review.
