Google Voice App finally accepted into Apple App Store

Almost a year ago the official Google Voice application was rejected by Apple and resulted in much hoopla, criticism, legal threats plus an inquiry from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. Apple relented and today has finally accepted the Google Voice App into the Apple App Store. For those of you that are not familiar with Google Voice, this is Google’s Voice telephony service. Features of the application advertised by Google include:

  • Cheap rates for international calls
  • Free text messaging to U.S. numbers
  • Voicemail transcription
  • Display your Google Voice number as caller ID when making calls

You can now download the free Google Voice App from the Apple App Store.

Here at Razor Micro, Inc. we have tested the Google Voice service and use it regularly. It’s in our opinion it’s without a doubt one of the best Google software services available. It’s obviously been available on the Android Platform for Android based smartphones but the announcement today is great news for iPhone and iPod Touch users.
